Group CEO, Steff Group of Companies
Stefan Maier Gleixner is a German entrepreneur based in Mtwapa, Kilifi County. He leads Steff Agritec (K) Ltd, which farms maize, beans, sunflower and barley at scale and processes them in its own factories into plant oil, flour and animal feed. He is also Group CEO of Steff Group of Companies.
Steff Agritec (K) Ltd, active in Kenya since 2021, farms 50,000 hectares under full irrigation. It grows field crops at scale and processes them in the group’s own factories. Growing and processing in one group keeps the value of each harvest in the region and puts the group’s target of 1,200,000 tonnes of food a year within one supply chain. The plan builds on eight years of field trials at the group’s test farm in Singida District, Tanzania, from 2012 to 2020.

Stefan started in German transport and logistics. He became CEO of Maier Transporte in 1994 and ran it until 2007, while also leading Car Company from 1996 to 2007. He is a master craftsman in metal construction (Meisterschule, Munich), holds the EU licence for international road haulage (Köln) and studied business administration in banking at the Sparkassenakademie in Regensburg.
He then took his transport and logistics experience to East Africa. From 2010 he led Steff Metal and Quality Ltd in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which imported, assembled and maintained heavy industrial equipment, imported goods for other companies and ran its own truck fleet. From 2012 he also led Steff Agritec (T) Ltd, which ran a test farm in Singida District, Tanzania, until 2020 to study how modern farming practices perform in the East African climate. Since 2021 he has carried that work into Kenya with Steff Agritec (K) Ltd, which farms maize, beans, sunflower and barley at scale and produces plant oil, flour and animal feed. Today he runs the group from Mtwapa on the Kenyan coast. Its businesses span farming, the production of plant oil, flour and animal feed, construction, civil works and real estate.
